Renner sheen levels

Use Renner's numbered sheen scale to compare matte, satin, gloss, and high-gloss finishes.

Renner identifies sheen with a numerical scale. Lower numbers appear flatter; higher numbers reflect more light.

The scale

The catalog presents 10 as matte and 90 as high gloss, with progressively higher luster between those points. Product availability varies, so confirm the offered sheen for the exact system.

  • 10: matte
  • 20–30: low-luster to satin range
  • 40–60: medium to semi-gloss range
  • 80–90: gloss to high gloss range

Sheen changes what you see

Flatter finishes soften surface variation. Higher gloss increases clarity and depth but also reveals sanding marks, dust, and substrate defects. Prepare the surface to the standard demanded by the sheen.

Make a controlled sample

Spray the complete schedule on the actual species or veneer, using the planned film build and sanding process. Evaluate it in the project's lighting before production.
