How much do custom window treatments cost?
Real ranges for shades, shutters, and drapery in South Florida — what drives the number up, and where the money is actually worth spending.
Typical ranges per window
Prices depend on size, fabric, mounting, and whether the treatment is motorized. These are the ranges most of our Palm Beach County projects land in, installed:
- Solar or roller shades — the most common starting point, and the least expensive way to solve glare
- Cellular shades — mid-range, with the best insulation value per dollar
- Woven woods — mid-range, priced by fabric and whether it is lined
- Plantation shutters — a higher per-window investment that stays with the house
- Custom drapery — priced mostly by yardage and fabrication, so the fabric choice drives the total
- Motorization — an add-on per shade, plus hub and programming
What actually moves the price
Two windows the same size can quote very differently. The variables that matter most:
- Width — wide openings need heavier hardware or a two-shade split
- Fabric — a designer print or a natural woven costs multiples of a basic screen
- Mounting — recessed pockets and cassettes add fabrication and install time
- Motorization and how it is powered (battery, hardwired, or solar)
- Height and access — anything over a stair or above a great-room ceiling
- Blackout systems with side channels, which are a system, not a fabric upgrade
Where the money is worth it
After thirty years of installs, the upgrades customers never regret are motorization on hard-to-reach windows, proper blackout in the primary bedroom, and better fabric on the windows you actually look at every day. The upgrades people do regret are premium fabric on a window behind a sofa nobody sees, and skipping measuring to save a service call.

- For standard-size windows in a rental or a secondary room, off-the-shelf blinds are fine. For anything wide, tall, angled, or visible from your main living space, custom sizing and proper mounting are the difference between a window that looks finished and one that looks patched.

- Custom-made treatments are built to the exact dimensions of your windows, so they are not returnable. That is exactly why we measure ourselves rather than working from customer-supplied numbers.
