How do you measure for custom window treatments?

What happens at the measure appointment, why we do it ourselves, and how to prepare your rooms.

Why we measure, not you

Custom treatments are cut to a sixteenth of an inch. Window openings in South Florida homes are rarely square, stucco returns vary wall to wall, and impact glass changes the usable depth of the recess. When we measure, the fit is our responsibility — including remakes.

What happens at the appointment

Plan on 45 minutes to 90 minutes for a whole house.

  • We measure every opening, note depth, obstructions, and mounting surface
  • We check the direction each window faces and the light through the day
  • We confirm inside versus outside mount, and where drapery hardware can land
  • We bring samples so you can see fabric against your actual light and finishes
  • For motorized shades, we identify power routing before anything is ordered

How to prepare

Clear access to the windows, decide which rooms are in scope, and have any paint colors, flooring samples, or fabric selections handy. If a designer or builder is involved, loop them in for the appointment.

Follow-up questions

Can I measure myself and just order?
For simple stock products we can work from your numbers, but custom orders sized from customer measurements are not warranted against fit. We strongly recommend a professional measure.
Do you measure outside of Delray Beach?
Yes — we measure and install throughout Palm Beach County, including Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Highland Beach, Gulf Stream, Ocean Ridge, Lake Worth Beach, and Palm Beach.
