About Jay
Got a hardware problem? Bring it to Jay.
With 25 years of carpentry experience, Jay Wilson brings a lifetime of hands-on problem-solving to the Hessler Ace Hardware floor.
Jay understands that customers don't always walk into a hardware store knowing the name of the part, tool, or product they need. Sometimes they just know something is broken. That's where he comes in.
From hardware and tools to keys, propane, plumbing and electrical-related products, and special orders, Jay enjoys listening to the problem, figuring out what the customer is trying to accomplish, and helping find a practical solution.
If something needs fixing, building, replacing, or figuring out, Jay is a good person to ask.
25 years of hands-on experience
Practical knowledge you can put to work
Jay brings 25 years of carpentry experience to his role at Hessler. That means his knowledge doesn't come only from knowing where products are on the shelf — it comes from years of working with tools, materials, repairs, and real-world projects.
That experience gives Jay a practical perspective when a customer comes in with a problem. Rather than simply asking, "What product are you looking for?" Jay is interested in the bigger question: "What are you trying to do?"
Once he understands the project, he can help you start figuring out what you may need to get it done.
What Jay does at Hessler
Help across the entire Ace floor
Jay helps customers throughout the Ace Hardware floor with a wide variety of everyday needs. On any given day, you might find him helping someone find hardware, talking through which tool may work best for a job, assisting with keys, helping with propane, locating plumbing or electrical-related products, arranging a special order, or simply helping a customer make sense of a repair.
His carpentry background also gives him valuable experience with how tools are actually used — not just what they're called. That can make a big difference when you're standing in front of several options wondering which one fits your project.

Jay likes problems — solving them, that is
Jay summed up one of his favorite parts of helping customers pretty simply: he likes putting problems to bed and putting fires out.
That might be a repair that has been frustrating you all weekend. A piece of hardware you can't identify. A tool you're not sure you need. Or a project where you know what you're trying to accomplish but can't quite figure out how to get there.
Bring Jay the problem. He'll help you start working toward the solution.
You don't need to know what it's called
One of the biggest advantages of shopping at a neighborhood hardware store is that you don't always have to arrive with the exact product name or part number.
- "I'm trying to fix this."
- "I need something that does this."
- "I have no idea what this thing is called."
That's okay. With decades of hands-on experience, Jay can help ask the right questions and narrow down what you're looking for.
"If you ever need help with anything — especially hardware — come see me. I'd be happy to help!"
Beyond the hardware aisle
Surfing, shooting and fishing
Jay appreciates working with good people who are helpful, happy, and willing to work hard. That kind of team environment makes a difference when you're helping customers solve problems — if one person doesn't have the answer, there's usually someone nearby who can jump in.
When Jay isn't solving hardware problems, he enjoys spending his time outdoors: surfing, shooting and fishing. It's a fitting mix for someone who enjoys staying active, working with his hands, and figuring things out.
